Resume keywords · Sales representative

A sales resume should read like a territory, not a task list.

Sales titles are inconsistent, but the evidence is not. Recruiters need to see what you sold, to whom, across which territory, through what cycle, and against which target. The right keywords surface the resume; quota, pipeline, deal size, and retention establish the level.

Tools and software

CRM names are exact filters, but activity matters more than access. Show how the system supported qualification, forecasting, and follow-up.

Three rewritten resume bullets

The figures below are examples. Replace them with your own evidence—the structure is reusable, the content is not.

A sales role without a target

Responsible for selling software to business customers.

Won £780k in new annual recurring revenue across 34 mid-market SaaS deals, achieving 118% of annual quota with an average sales cycle of 71 days.

Product, customer segment, revenue type, deal count, target, and cycle make the performance comparable.

Prospecting described as activity

Made outbound calls and generated new leads.

Built a 120-account outbound territory in Salesforce and Sales Navigator; booked 46 qualified meetings in six months and converted 11 into opportunities worth £390k.

The rewrite follows prospecting from target account through qualified pipeline instead of rewarding call volume alone.

Account management without growth

Managed relationships with key clients.

Managed 28 enterprise accounts worth £2.1m ARR, ran quarterly business reviews, and retained 96% of revenue while expanding seven accounts by a combined £240k.

Portfolio, cadence, retention, and expansion prove the commercial value of the relationships.

07

ATS pitfalls specific to this role

Account Executive and Account Manager are different motions

One usually closes new business; the other protects and grows existing revenue. Choose the title and evidence that match your actual ownership.

Revenue needs a period and currency

£500k means little without monthly, quarterly, or annual context and without clarifying booked, billed, recurring, or pipeline value.

B2B and B2C should be explicit

Customer type, deal size, decision process, and sales cycle change the role. Add the model to each relevant experience.

CRM access is not CRM ownership

Describe forecasting, qualification, reporting, or sequence work so the software keyword carries evidence.

08

What to leave out

  • Excellent communicator

A negotiated deal, recovered account, or multi-stakeholder close demonstrates communication more credibly.

  • Exceeded expectations

State quota, attainment, ranking, or growth against a defined baseline.

  • A list of every sales methodology

Keep methods you used and can connect to a deal-review process.

  • Pipeline presented as closed revenue

Label pipeline, bookings, ARR, and recognised revenue accurately.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include quota attainment?+

Yes. Give the target period, percentage, and whether the quota was ramped, individual, or shared.

Can I hide confidential revenue figures?+

Use ranges, percentages, deal counts, rankings, or indexed growth while preserving the scale of your work.

Which title should I use?+

Keep official titles in employment history and use the closest accurate market title in the resume headline.

Do call and email volumes belong on a resume?+

Only when they explain an efficient system. Meetings, qualified pipeline, conversion, and revenue are stronger outcomes.
